Memory walk 2017Β

We all know someone who s been affected by Alzheimer’s or dementia, whether it be someone close to you or someone who has a relative who were/are  sadly struck by it. Ours was grandad Hughes/my father in law. Grandad had a variety of illnesses and only b1&2 really got to know him before he sadly passed in 2011. The memory walk was a nobrainer for us, we wanted to do something worthwhile for his memory! So b1 and I took part last sunday(1/10) and here are just a few pics of our day πŸ’™  Alzheimer’s affects all of us at some point. Alzheimer’s disease, named after the doctor who first described it (Alois Alzheimer), is a physical disease that affects the brain. There are more than 520,000 people in the UK with Alzheimer’s disease. During the course of the disease, proteins build up in the brain to form structures called ‘plaques’ and ‘tangles’. This leads to the loss of connections between nerve cells, and eventually to the death of nerve cells and loss of brain tissue. People with Alzheimer’s also have a shortage of some important chemicals in their brain. These chemical messengers help to transmit signals around the brain. When there is a shortage of them, the signals are not transmitted as effectively. current treatments for Alzheimer’s disease can help boost the levels of chemical messengers in the brain, which can help with some of the symptoms. Fundraising helps to find the right treatment and hopefully one day a cure 🀞🏻

The most amazing summer ever!!πŸ’™β€οΈ

So it’s that time again, the annual family holiday to good old butlins! A trip we(Scott &i )literally dread every year, not because we’re miserable sods but because we know the kids are counting down the days, minutes, and secondsπŸ™ˆ till we leave! Butlins is literally every child’s dream holiday, they know as soon as you pass those red barriers (almost) everything’s free! Every single day packed with character shoots and shows, unlimited fair ground rides even a silent movie or two! Even as an adult I secretly love the place! But this summer was different for so many reasons, firstly and most importantly because recently we ve been given a string of diagnoses for B4πŸ’™ we always knew he was an exemption to the rules but having a professional say it too was just so hard to hear. We hadn’t been to butlins since b4 was 10 months so we were most definitely not ready for what came nextπŸ™ˆπŸ˜© b4 has amongst other things been diagnosed as having sensory processing disorder, as much as I ve read the leaflets and books nothing really read true until we walked into that pavilion πŸ˜³πŸ˜©πŸ™ˆ OMG the biggest bitch of a meltdown happened, the noise, omg the noise he literally screamed! We didn’t really appreciate how much it was gonna affect him and wow was it heartbreaking to see πŸ’” b4 also has a 3 year developmental delay which didn’t help the fact he didn’t understand what was happening to him. First port of call, find some damn ear defenders! 4 hours later we did it we walked back in, he was ok! B4 in general is a quiet boy he doesn’t really open up to people , in fact, he mainly sticks to meπŸ˜‚ I shouldn’t joke I’m probably wrong for not wanting to share him πŸ™ˆ This holiday was already scaring me, cautious of every noise & place wrapping b4 in cotton wool as you do, until it happened , he wants to go to the circus 😳😳 what the frig! This is of course his holiday too so off we go, big top circus! Front row of course, although I was shitting my pants that a 🀑 was gonna pop up at any minuteπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ instead an angel appears! This lovely guy walks over and starts talking to b4 and to my surprise, b4 a playing and laughing with a non mummy person😳 what is this? This angel Toby literally changed b4 from that very minute. Toby vast became b4 s favourite person ever, from hugging him constantly (part of his sensory) to looking for him to catch a high five before a visit to the fair he was literally obsessed πŸ’™ everyday became a joy , b4 was happy, every one else was happy and the holiday just became amazing😊 the people, the place, just everything made it amazing! Toby became a massive part of our holiday and I don’t think even to this day that he truly knows what impact he s had on b4 and this family,  in that 5 minutes he made b4 trust and open up to new people and just generally changed his whole outlook on this scary world 🌎  this is literally my favourite picture ever, this sums up how happy one man has made my boy!

Our 3 week amazing holiday was soon to end😩 we didn’t want to leave, this place changed our lives!

We came home sad and weirdly homesick? So we made a big life changing decision, we want a new life in minehead! So that’s what’s gonna happen!

Who said holidays ended?πŸ€”

Thank you butlins minehead, thank you amazing people and the biggest thank you without a doubt goes to Toby, who is now our best friend and part of our family πŸ’™πŸ’™
